New Tutor Training Workshops - Quarterly

This workshop will introduce you to our organization and equip you with the skills to help an adult improve their reading skills.  We use the Laubach and Challenger Series.  These methods hav
e proven successful for tutoring in one-to-one pairs.  Lesson plans are provided and scripted, so no experience is required!  Pairs meet locally for 1-2 hours per week at a time and public place that is convenient for both people.  This workshop and all materials are FREE!  Please let us know that you will attend.  Call us to get on the mailing list for the next workshop!
Computer Lab ...

Thanks to the generosity of Harold Hunter and Community Service Network, we have a modern computer lab available for use by HCL students and tutors.  Lab volunteers assist with program selection and basic computer operation.  We have an assortment of literacy, math and ESL software to supplement student lessons.  Call us for afternoon and evening lab hours!  910.891.4111

OUR STATE & HCL

In 2006, Our State Magazine highlighted HCL and award-winning student, Perrin Partin, in a feature article.  In a partnership with the NC Literacy Assocation, Our State celebrates its 75th anniversary by giving back with a series of articles promoting awareness of adult literacy issues, as well as a listing of all community based literacy organizations, encouraging their philanthropic readers to get involved.  Check out the ad here.  Read more about this campaign by clicking here.  HCL thanks Our State for promoting adult literacy throughout NC.
