Harnett County Literacy began in 1985 as a grassroots volunteer organization determined to wipe out adult illiteracy in this area. Now incorporated and established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, that orginal mission still drives our staff, members, volunteers, board and even our students at HCL.
HCL provides FREE basic adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. Based on the philosophy of adult literacy pioneer, Dr. Frank Laubach, HCL believes in "each one teach one." Volunteer tutors are matched one-to-one throughout
