2010 marks the 25th anniversary for Harnett County Literacy!

HCL began in 1985 as a grassroots volunteer organization determined to wipe out adult illiteracy in this area.  Now incorporated and established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, that original mission still drives our staff, members, volunteers, board and even our students at HCL.

HCL provides FREE basic adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.  Based on the philosophy of adult literacy pioneer, Dr. Frank Laubach, HCL believes in "each one teach one."  Volunteer tutors are matched one-to-one throughout
Harnett County
with individual students at convenient times and locations.  Small group classes are available for 3+ students.

Our office, main classroom and computer learning lab are located near the post office in Dunn on the 1st floor of
Triangle South Enterprise Center  (the old Magnolia School
).  A receptionist is available from 8:30am-5:00pm, M-F.  We have a monthly meeting in the cafeteria on the 1st Wed. of each month.
